TRAVEL WRITING WORKSHOP IN GUATEMALA
APRIL 12-19, 2007

with award-winning travel journalist Judith Fein
award-winning New Mexican travel editor Pat Reed
and successful travel photographer Paul Ross

The Writing on the Road trip to Guatemala will take place April 12-19, 2007.

Guatemala, one of the most fascinating countries in the Western Hemisphere, has more intact Maya culture than any other country. Participants will visit Maya villages, cook with Maya women, sample Guatemalan specialties in local restaurants, ride on a "chicken bus," climb an active volcano, experience the world-famous Chichicastenango market with its dazzling handicrafts and textiles, climb a hill to honor a Maya god as well as visit temples, ruins and masterpieces of colonial architecture.

The itinerary will include overnight or multiple stays in:

Guatemala City

The magnificent colonial city of Antigua (we’ll also visit the surrounding Maya villages)

Chichicastenango, the most exciting indigenous market in Latin America

Lake Atitlan (we’ll visit villages around the lake)

The price of the trip will include accommodation in four-star hotels (or their equivalents), all meals in hotels and restaurants, guides, entry fees, tips for meals and for handling one bag per participant in each hotel, and airport transfers.

Although some meals will be taken in hotels, every attempt will be made to eat in superior local restaurants so participants can enjoy the cuisine of Guatemala.

Participants have to book and pay for their airfare to and from Guatemala City. Transfer from the airport to the first hotel and from the last hotel to the airport will be provided. Many American and International carriers fly to Guatemala City, and you will be able to use frequent flier miles if they are available on the airline you choose. Check with your airline.

Also not included are beverages, tips for the guide and driver, and all personal expenses including, but not limited to, phone calls, room service, laundry, minibar, and extras in restaurants or hotels.
